MSU Chao Din Student Group Organizes “Kathin for the People” Project to Promote Learning Beyond the Classroom
The Chao Din Student Group under the MSU Student Organization organized the “Huam Boon Home Panya: Kathin for the People” project in Mukdahan Province to preserve Thai cultural traditions while fostering Buddhist values and hands-on learning experiences.
On October 19, 2025, the Chao Din Student Group (ชาวดิน) under the Student Organization of Mahasarakham University organized the project “Huam Boon Home Panya: Kathin for the People” (ฮ่วมบุญโฮมปัญญา, a Thai-Isan dialect phrase meaning “Make merit for wisdom”) at Wat Si Mongkhon Tai, Mueang District, Mukdahan Province.
The event aimed to encourage students to learn about and preserve Thai cultural traditions alongside Buddhist practices through the Kathin ceremony, providing a practical learning experience outside the classroom.
The project was supported by various sectors, including current students, alumni, faculty members, staff, and devoted Buddhists from Maha Sarakham, Mukdahan, and neighboring provinces. The total offering raised from the Kathin ceremony amounted to 97,430 Baht.
In addition to the Kathin ceremony, the project included activities for exploring Mukdahan’s social and cultural context across multiple dimensions—history, politics, ethnicity, education, and economy. The students visited two important cultural and historical sites: the Mukdahan Tower (Ho Kaew Mukdahan) and the Shrine of the Blessed Martyrs of Songkhon (Wat Song Khon) in Wan Yai District, a Roman Catholic church renowned for its beauty and historical significance.
Through this initiative, students gained valuable insights into community engagement, cultural heritage, and interdisciplinary learning, reflecting Mahasarakham University’s commitment to fostering social responsibility and holistic education.
