Background:

    Mahasarakham University (MSU) is a comprehensive public university located in Maha Sarakham province, about 470 kilometers northeast of Bangkok, Thailand. We have two campuses and the total area is approximately 615 acres. Founded in 1968, MSU has grown to become a leading institution of higher education in the region, enrolling over 46,000 students and offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across 20 faculties, 205 programs, and three academic clusters namely social sciences, science and technology, and health sciences. Furthermore, MSU has a total of 3,601 staff including 60 international staff. The university is committed to providing high-quality education, conducting cutting-edge research, and fostering innovation and social responsibility. The university has a strong focus on community engagement and outreach, and it plays an active role in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Isan, the region in which it is located. MSU is a welcoming and inclusive university, with a diverse student body and faculty. MSU is committed to providing a supportive learning environment for all students, and it offers a variety and dedicated to providing its students with a transformative educational experience that prepares them for success in an increasingly globalized world. We are a well-respected institution of higher learning, and share the 5th rank among the top universities in Thailand. MSU is also recognized internationally as we have official partnership through signing memorandums of understanding with over 160 institutions across 21 countries. Moreover, we foster various memberships and affiliations beyond our own academic community such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations University Network (ASEAN-UNINET). In addition to the faculty that provides teaching, MSU also has supplementary study units to organize activities or projects that are beneficial to students, such as American Corner, Maha Sarakham King Sejong Institute, MSU Isan Museum, MSU Medicinal Mushroom Museum, and etc.

    MSU currently (as of 2024) has 16 faculties, 2 colleges, 1 school and 1 institution as follows: College of Music, College of Politics and Governance, Faculty of Cultural Science, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Fine-Applied Arts and Cultural Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, Mahasarakham Business School, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of Architecture, Urban Design, and Creative Arts, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Faculty of Informatics, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Technology, and Walai Rukhavej Research Institute.

Objectives:

    In accordance with its philosophy, vision, and mission, as well as the national higher educational development plan, Mahasarakham University has set up the following objectives:
    1. To provide academic services, promoting and developing academic excellence in a wide variety of areas in order to produce and develop quality graduates and human resources;
    2. To promote research activities for new knowledge, developing Thai wisdom for competitive potential, and strengthening local communities following the philosophy of self-reliant economy and harmonious society;
    3. To provide educational services and academic development at all levels of society so as to consistently strengthen individuals’ and organizations’ sustainable potentials to create stability for effective self-reliance;
    4. To accumulate, conserve, and develop local wisdom, creating the body of knowledge in art and culture in order to be a center for as well as a regional leader of knowledge development;
    5. To manage and develop the university’s administrative system, for efficiency, freedom and flexibility of operation to meet society’s needs.
